Homeless Helping Bags also called as SMILE Bags. These bags are for homeless people struggling through life in difficult urban areas.

According to the Census of 2011, India has more than 1.7 million homeless residents, of which 938,384 are located in urban areas. These figures, however, grossly underestimate the real numbers of the homeless. Civil society organizations estimate that at least one per cent of the population of urban India is homeless. Based on this, it can be extrapolated that the population of the urban homeless is at least 3 million. In the capital city of Delhi alone, at any given point, civil society estimates place the number of homeless at around 150,000 - 200,000, of which at least 10,000 are women. India also has the highest number of street children in the world but there is no official data on their numbers or adequate schemes to respond to their special needs and concerns.

Estimated Number of Homeless People in Different Cities across India

  • Delhi: 150,000 - 200,000

  • Chennai: 40,000 - 50,000

  • Mumbai: 200,000

  • Indore: 10,000 - 12,000

The homeless people are left out from the society, do not get basic education or care or protection from other people. This pushes them to getinto anything which is a means of survival. Many getinto drugs or crime and find it difficult to get up to a normal life. With a smile bag we want to restore their faith in humanity and show them that we care for them. What may be a regular essential for most is a luxury for a person on road. Providing just food to eat is not enough, so the items chosen are those which a person would want to buy. People are identified and  handed over the bags by our distribution team. One person/family getting this bag full of surprises brings happiness and essential items directly to them. We have been distributing 500 -800 bags every year. In 2022 we are aiming to distribute 5000 smile bags.

You can donate 1 or more Smile Bags. Each smile bag contains 20 essential items for a person living on the road. Minimum Donation accepted is of 1 Smile Bag ( Rs.1050/- One Thousand Fifty Only ). All Donators with contribution more than 25 Bags would be issued a certificate of appreciation and are also welcome to become volunteers for Distribution. We distribute in batch sizes of 150 as soon as ready .
